Description and Narrative:
St. Andrew's Episcopal Church is an unusually intact example of small-scale Gothic Revival ecclesiastical design in Greenville. The architecture is similar to that used for other small Episcopal churches in South Carolina, especially in rural areas, and was a design of John DeWitt McCollough and his son, Edward H. McCollough. A mission of Christ Church Episcopal Church in Greenville to the growing West End section of town, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church was built between 1904 and 1905 with economy of size and detailing, but it inhabits characteristic features of the Gothic Revival style. The congregation funded several important Gothic Revival additions to the interior during the building's first decade, substantially completing it in 1915. The exterior of the church is characterized by its brick masonry construction, steeply pitched front-gable slate roof, Gothic windows, brick corbelling, and buttresses. On the interior, the sanctuary features plaster walls, a paneled wood ceiling with exposed roof structure, and historic wood pews and paneling carved with Gothic motifs. Listed in the National Register May 19, 2025.
