Description and Narrative:
Set near the summit of Clark's Mountain, the Earle-Morgan Cabin is a one-and-a-half-story Rustic mountain house constructed by Theron Earle in 1913. The building's design incorporates natural materials, complementing the rugged and wooded landscape around it. The cabin features the characteristics of Rustic style architecture including natural branch wood elements, rubble and stacked stone, and cedar shingles, all of which allow the cabin to blend into its rural mountain setting. The main cabin features a rectangular plan, side gable roof, and a full-width front porch with mountain views. In addition to the main cabin, the property features terraced gardens, a secondary log cabin, two front-gabled wooden sheds, and a cabin ruin comprised of a stone well and freestanding stone hearth. The property's design is an excellent local expression of Rustic architecture, a style that emphasizes craftsmanship and natural beauty over industrial uniformity.
