Description and Narrative:
The Lawrence L. Richardson House is a two-story frame building clad in lap siding with a Queen Anne form, and it is locally significant in the area of Politics/Government for its association with Dr. Lawrence Lafayette Richardson, one of Simpsonville's most influential citizens of the early 20th century. Mayor for a total of thirty-six years and chairman of the Simpsonville School District school board for more than twenty years, he was credited with improving the town's infrastructure and educational system in the early-to-mid 20th century. He was awarded a medical degree in 1894 and maintained his medical practice throughout his decades-long career as a public servant in Simpsonville. At the time of his death, Richardson was the longest-serving mayor in the history of Greenville County and was believed to be one of the longest-serving mayors in the state of South Carolina. The period of significance extends from the house's construction in 1909 during Richardson's initial rise as a civic leader to his death in 1958. Listed in the National Register September 26, 2022.
