Historical Information:
About 1904, Rev. Gowdy, minister of Cumberland AME (Site #197) began holding services for a small group of residents of this northwest section of Aiken. The predominantly black neighborhood was some distance from the complex of Friendship, Cumberland and Wesley Churches
