According to the property owner, the house was added on to about 1900. The house retains its original front door. Three outbuildings are associated with the home, one is of log construction with aluminum roofing and two have weatherboard siding with a aluminum roof. The small Mahon-Martin family cemetery is near the house, approximately 1/3 mi. NE of the house on the E side of Nesbitt Mahon Rd. Most stones date from the late nineteenth century.
Alterations:
Windows have been removed and openings covered with storm windows--owner still has original six over six windows.
Historical Information:
The Mahon family are related to the Martins who emigrated from Ireland and settled first in the Hickory Tavern area. They received a land grant of approximately 1200 acres, of which about 200 remain associated with the property. The family resided in a log structure on the property built prior to the extant house. This was primarily a cotton farm until the mid-1960s.
