The Lawrence L. Mayor for a total of thirty-six years and chairman of the Simpsonville School District school board for more than twenty years, he was credited with improving the town’s infrastructure and educational system in the early-to-mid 20th century. He was awarded a medical degree in 1894 and maintained his medical practice throughout his decades-long career as a public servant in Simpsonville. At the time of his death, Richardson was the longest-serving mayor in the history of Greenville County and was believed to be one of the longest-serving mayors in the state of South Carolina.
