Signficant Architectural Features:
Federal Style. The dwelling at 6 Thomas Street, dressed in the proper Classical Manner, was probably built by James Legare. The house was later bought by Robert Barnwell Rhett who was known as the "Father of Sessession." The main floors are on a high basement level, with front piazzas reaching up to the third floor. Large French windows under fanlights open out onto each level. The floor plan is basically the double house variety, but the east and west front rooms having octagonal bays.
