Signficant Architectural Features:

The house built shortly after 1809 by Mrs. Hannah Groning, is a 2 story clapboard with a hipped roof with pediment and one story piazza. The house faces squarely on the street. Although the house has undergone several periods of change, much of the original construction can be seen. The drawing room of the west side of the house is the most formal and decorative of all the rooms of the house. It is of the pure Adam manner and is handsome in all of its detail such as gouge-work mantel with reeded swags and cable trim. Paneled dados and a simple low relief cornice about the room completes the decorative treatment. The hallway still retains, although somewhat altered, some of the Adam trim. Outside, most drastic renovation has taken place and the Adam work has been changed to produce huge columns, post-bellum clapboard, and double pane windows of the Victorian period.
