Photograph of house shows early Federal structure with circular 1-story portico (w/ balustraded roof); house has cupola and side has 2-story veranda. ;House is unusual in that behind its cypress weatherboarding is a layer of brick giving added substance to its handsome facade. House was built about 1778 by Josiah Smith and later became an exclusive mens club. It was during this time that the famous "Charleston Club Punch" was invented and was for long after a Charleston tradition. Today it is a private residence.
