Columned portico on south side. This house, built in 1838 by Robert William Roper, is a massive Greek Revival dwelling combining grace with large proportions and spaciousness. The 3 story house has a flat roof topped with a balustrade. The large full-length windows across the front open out onto graceful iron balconies. The house is most distinguishable by the large portico on the south side with huge columns of the Doric order that set the house out from the distance. The huge portico is supported by a massive arched arcade on the ground level.
