Signficant Architectural Features:
Raised 2 story framed dwelling of "T" shape facing Beaufort River to south. Main S. facade with 3 bays incorporates a central doorcase with elaborate Adam style surround (now blocked) flanked right and left by tripartite windows. 2 story tiered porch ex
Alterations:
house apparently reworked in late 1840's or early 1850's when entrance removed from south to west facade. Porch columns appear to be replacements.
Historical Information:
Said to have been built by John Joyner Smith c. 1813. Smith's ownership is confirmed by his heir Elizabeth Barnwell's Direct Tax Claim. Smith's plantation at Old Fort is clearly visible across Beaufort River from house. The 1968 Feiss-Wright survey form
