Description and Narrative:
The John Solomon Hendrix House was probably constructed ca. 1850 by John Solomon Hendrix (1831-1917), a farmer who married Martha Ann Snelgrove on March 16, 1851. Both families were pioneer German settlers. The simplicity of the house is representative of farmhouses built in the county in the antebellum period. The house is one of the most intact antebellum farmhouses in the county. The John Solomon Hendrix House is a two-story, rectangular, weatherboarded frame farmhouse with a gable roof and exterior end chimneys. The façade features a projecting double tiered porch supported on each floor by square wood posts connected by a plain balustrade. A central entrance on each story of the façade features multi-paned transom and sidelights and is flanked by two six-over-six windows. Listed in the National Register November 22, 1983.
