Description and Narrative:
(Rev. Walter I. Herbert House) Built in 1878, this one and one-half story eclectic dwelling is of weatherboard under a raised seam, metal, multi-gabled roof. A projecting front gable with cornice returns displays a recessed balcony having corner brackets, pierced balustrade and doorway surrounded by transom and sidelights. The gable overhangs a full width front porch having pierced balustrade and chamfered posts. A central doorway, with sidelights and transom, is flanked by a single, shuttered six-over-six windows on the lower front. The recessed gable balcony and ornamented porch are repeated on the left elevation. Pilaster corner posts are paneled. Windows and doors feature triangular caps. The recessed upper floor balcony appears only twice in the Central Midlands Region, in this house on two elevations and on the façade only on the Pugh-Cooper House. Listed in the National Register July 6, 1982.
