Description and Narrative:

(Peter A. Wilds House) Wilds Hall, also known as the Peter A. Wilds House, dates from about 1839 and was enlarged to its present size about 1850. The design of this house is almost exactly the same as was exhibited by several other houses in Springville which are no longer standing. Wilds Hall, therefore, provides excellent insight into the architectural character of old Springville. Wilds Hall is a two-and-one-half story, rectangular, weatherboard clad, frame residence with gabled roof and twin interior, ridge chimneys on a low stuccoed brick pier foundation. The façade has symmetrical fenestration of windows and entrance. The entrance is a complex arrangement of two four-over-four, single hung sash windows bracketing a double-leaf, paneled door with sidelights and four-light transom. A one-story, shed roof porch with square, solid pine, freestanding posts resting on stuccoed piers spans the façade. There are four associated outbuildings of unknown historic usage, one of which might date from the antebellum period. Peter Wilds was a wealthy planter owning 111 slaves in 1860. This house, lived in by four generations of the Wilds family over a 130-year period, had the largest continuous occupancy by members of the same family of any in Springville. Listed in the National Register October 10, 1985.
