Signficant Architectural Features:
Two-story commercial building, rectangular in plan, constructed of red brick. Around the flat roof of the building is a parapet, below which is an entablature with dentil course and egg and dart molding. Front (west elevation): symmetrical: central front entrance features a six-panel door framed by a rectangular five-light transom and three-pane sidelights; on either side of the entrance is a large, multi-pane window; sheltering the first floor of the facade is a hipped metal roof with boxed cornice and wrought iron brackets at either end; on the second floor are three double-hung windows with a continuous concrete or stone sill - the central window has eight-over-eight lights, the two smaller windows are 6/6; at the corners of the building are brick pilasters with concrete (or stone?) capitals and bases, which rest on brick pedestals. North elevation: is divided into three equal parts by four pilasters, which are like those of the front; the center and westernmost divisions of this elevation are identical - each contains a tripartite window on the first floor (a single-sash plate glass window between two 1/1 windows, each window having a transom panel) and three double-hung, 6/6 windows on the second floor; the easternmost division is identical on the second floor to the other two, but has a single-leaf glazed door and double window on the first floor; all the windows of this elevation have continuous concrete or stone sills; the pilaster at the west corner contains a U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey Bench Mark dated 1918.
Alterations:
altered - building was sandblasted about ten years ago; interior has been remodeled; transoms of the first floor windows on the north elevation have either been painted or replaced with wood; windows and door of the facade’s first floor have been changed; original awning appears to have been replaced.
