Signficant Architectural Features:
Rectangular, weatherboarded house with an ell attached to the southern half of the rear (east) elevation (creating an L-shaped plan). Pedimented gable roof. One interior straddle-ridge chimney, which has been covered with stucco or cement. Front (west elevation: symmetrical, AABAA - A's are floor-length six-over-six windows with louvered shutters, and B is an entrance with single glass and wood panel door and two-light transom (the panes of the transom have been painted white); across the facade is a porch with hipped roof supported by six Tuscan columns; the concrete porch floor is not original. South elevation: in the gable end is a rectangular louvered vent; the main part of the house contains two windows (the window opening at the east end of this side has been partially filled in and now contains a small 6/6 window); the two window openings on the south side of the rear ell have been changed - one window has been replaced by a shorter, wider double window, and the other window opening now contains a single window (smaller than the original window). North elevation: the original two windows of this side of the main part of the house have been replaced with smaller windows. Rear (east elevation): a single window opening in the rear ell has been partially filled in - it now contains a much smaller window; addition with shed roof. OUTBUILDINGS:Concrete block garage/storage shed with hip & gable roof; small metal-clad building with gable roof (neither of the two outbuildings are fifty years old).
Alterations:
altered - see description; a carport has been added at the rear of the building (its roof is attached to the ell and to the back of the house); porches on the north side of the ell and on the rear have been enclosed.
Historical Information:
The 1922 and 1931 Sanborn maps of Denmark show that this building was then a dwelling. The house Is in an area not covered by the 1908 and 1913 Sanborn maps.
