Historical Information:
Mrs. Ann C. Tyler bought this lot from Issac S. Bamberg for $50 in 1872 and she probably built a dwelling of some kind on it as the value of the property had increased to $800 when it was sold in 1898 to the estate of W. S. Sharpe for his daughter Bertha Sharpe Dowling. On his return from the Spanish-American Way, Captain Henry Spann Dowling either remodeled the Tyler dwelling or built a new house. The Dowling house was 1 1/2 stories. In 1906, Mr. and Mrs. John Cooner acquired the property and enlarged the upper story. With his sons, E. Roy and Marion, Cooner owned and operated a hardware store and funeral home in Bamberg. Charles S. Henerey bought the house in 1951. Henerey was president of the Bamberg Textile Mills until his retirement in 1963 and then remained in an advisory capacity until his death in 1973.
