Historical Information:
Emory A. and Essie Free Hooten built this house after purchasing the lot from Susie Counts in 1909. They lived in the house until they sold it to Mrs. Marie D. Kearse in 1933. Faber W. Kearse was a partner with his brother in the law firm of Kearse and Kearse, and was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives from Bamberg County, serving for a time as speaker pro-tern. Kearse died in 1943 and the house was sold first to A. G. Hicks in 1944, then to R. L. and Bessie M. Kearse in 1945.
