Signficant Architectural Features:
2 story clapboard house with hip roof, 2 large interior chimneys with corbeled caps. Front- asymmetrical; a projecting bay on W. side of front features sawn brackets with pendants under pedimented gable; front entrance has rectangular transom and sidelights. 1 story porch with turned balusters in railing and round columns supporting a balustraded deck above wraps around 2 sides of the building. OUTBUILDINGS: gazebo and other old outbuildings

Historical Information:
Built by John Cope for his daughter Clio Brabham, the design of the house shows the influence of the Queen Anne style. Jesse F. Carter, who bought the house from Cope, served as a State Senator from Bamberg Co. (1925-1927) and later as an associate justice of the S. C. Supreme Court.
