Signficant Architectural Features:
2 story, brick Victorian house. Front is asymmetrical and features a 2 story veranda, 5 bays wide on the first floor with slender square columns (some missing) on brick bases, on the second floor, 3 bays wide with smaller wooden columns and scroll brackets. Round louvered opening in front gable. Windows opening onto the porches are floor length 6/9; other windows on the building are predominantly 6/6. The main front entry features a paneled door with etched glass transom and sidelights. To the right of the ground floor veranda is a wooden conservatory which originally had 5 windows. A 5-sided wing projects from the right side of the building and a bay window from the left side. Extending from the rear facade is a 1-story wing with a porch along its left side. The tin roof features 6 chimneys, 4 with corbeled caps, and a bracketed cornice. INTERIOR: plaster ceiling medallions, deep molding, original floors and mantels. OUTBUILDINGS: smokehouse, chicken house, storage sled w/metal siding & metal roof

Historical Information:
Built by Gen. F. Marion Bamberg for whom the county is named. Bamberg served as a first lieutenant in Hart's Battery of the Hampton Legion in the Civil War. In 1877, Wade Hampton, then Governor of SC appointed Bamberg to his staff as brigadier general. Bamberg promoted the educational, religious, economic, and cultural growth of the town of Bamberg. He served as director and president of the Bamberg Banking Company. He helped establish the Bamberg Textile Mill and served as its director. Gen. Bamberg gave a library and gym to the Carlisle Fitting School (later Carlisle Military School) and large donations for the construction of a new Methodist Church.
