Historical Information:
It is thought that this house was built by a Baptist minister, Reverend C. P. Ervin. Ervin sold the property in 1897 to John Bellinger, an attorney with law offices in Bamberg. A series of arguments with a Baptist minister whose premises adjoined the rear of his lot resulted in Bellinger being shot and killed by the minister in 1908. After Mrs. Bellinger died in 1913, their son, R. Pinckney Bellinger, came in possession of the property. He also was an attorney who practiced for a while in Bamberg. The house was deeded to his wife, Muriel, in 1928 the divorce settlement. The next owner, M. O. Hewitt, was the Bamberg agent for the Southern Railroad.
