Historical Information:
Historical RR Route was laid between 1850-1852 slightly south of original route of SC Railroad. The deep cut allowed elimination of the Inclined Plane and its machinery at Park and Laurens Streets. An act of the S.C. Legislature in 1897 required the S.C. and Georgia Railroad_x000D_ Company to erect and maintain bridges over the railroad cut on_x000D_ certain streets of Aiken, and to open up and grade other crossings.
