Historical Information:
A house on this lot was owned by the Woodward or Chafee family; it was either demolished or extensively remodeled by P.D. Roberts of Philadelphia. Mr. Roberts was general counsel for the Pennsylvania Railroad and Mrs. Roberts an heir of the Diston Saw Company. According to Herman Hahn, Mrs. Roberts was one of few people in the U.S. that had an annual income of a million dollars. Yale Dolan is said to have owned the house from around 1915 to 1949. After his death, Mrs. Ambrose Clark bought the house. When Mrs. Clark died, Mr. and Mrs. William Walker Phelps (son of Mr. and Mrs. Sheffield Phelps) acquired the house at a public auction.
