Historical Information:
Shown on 1935 Sanborn Map as l acre corner store and four shops (901-909 Laurens Street). Corner section remembered as Robert Williams' Grocery. 1918 Sanborn map shows corner grocery, with grocery, meats, cobbler, and baker in the four northern shops, along Laurens Street. This structure replaced an earlier block of one-story offices and "sample rooms" which faced Richland Avenue, shown on the 1909 Sanborn map. The 1899 map shows a large one story "steam printing plant" at this corner, facing Richland Avenue. This site was the location of Shuler Building; buildings presently known as Simmons Building.
