Historical Information:
Said to be the oldest of the large houses facing the railway line in this area. Appears on 1899 Sanborn map as "woodworking" core of Henry Busch carpentry and repair shop, with large one-story sections to north and south: planing and sawing rooms. By 1909 these were gone, and the building was a rectangular two-story structure facing Sumter Street. 1925 and 1935 maps show a one-story porch across the north elevation, wrapping to one bay of east elevation. This porch has been removed. A photograph of the 1935 Centennial Celebration in Aiken shows a crowd of spectators along this porch, with a clear view of the railway line. (See site 443: this woodworking shop may have been related to Staubes' sawmill.
