Historical Information:
Built between 1918 and 1925; shown as three stores facing Laurens Street in 1925. 1935 Sanborn map shows the two right bays and left bay occupied by restaurants, with the other inner bay a store; second level is shown as" hotel." ) See Site #278: kitchen). Prior to 1920 this corner was occupied by a one-story block facing Laurens Street, with four small storefronts, and a two-story block of three stores facing the former alley to the east. The 1886-1889 maps show the Laurens Street stores as two-story buildings, shallow from front to rear, housing grocers, confectioners, etc., and with a one-story front projection into Laurens Street. 8y 1894 a two-story section had been built facing the alley to the rear The maps indicate that the Laurens Street stores as well as the sections facing the alley and Park Avenue, were replaced about 1920 by the present large structure.
