Historical Information:
By 1889 a bank was located at the corner of Laurens and Park Avenue. The Farmers and Merchants Bank, now a part of the CS National Bank system, was organized and chartered in_x000D_
1906. The Chatfield Building, the section of the structure along Laurens Street, was built in 1898; the 1899 Sanborn map shows a bank at the far right (northeast) section of the Chatfield Building. The Farmers and Merchants Bank erected a new building at the corner in 1912, combining it with the Chatfield Building.
