Historical Information:
First Baptist was one of the first congregations established in the city of Aiken, and has been located on this lot given by the railroad company since its beginning. In February 1865 7,000 troops under General Joe Wheeler skirmished with some of General Sherman's forces at the edge of Aiken, as the Federal troops marched along the_x000D_ South Carolina Railroad line destroying track. Cemetery has been disturbed by church building in 1877, 1956 (current Church) w/recent alterations.
