Historical Information:
Although Pete Bybee is credited as first owner who built the house, City Directories indicate that Herbert Bushaw, a manager for the F. W. Woolworth Co., was the first resident. The house was reportedly ordered from Sears-Roebuck catalog and cost between $1,608 to $3,632. The 30,000-piece kit and 75-page instruction booklet were shipped from Illinois, including 750 pounds of nails, shingles, windows, hardware, and paint. Bybee (d. 1987), a Vaudeville actor who settled in Greenville and opened The Sanitary Café on Main Street, did not reside at this location until the 1930s. His widow, Virginia, lived in the house until 1994.
