Historical Information:
The store was built by James Wright Daniel who owned the house next door (Site 0265). Daniel went into business with several other investors, including James Cooper Martin. In 1878, Martin bought out the other investors, but died shortly after. His wife and son, Jerry Cooper Martin, took over operating the store. In the early twentieth century, Jerry Cooper's son John Harold Martin became the store's proprietor. His brother, James Yancy Martin, later joined the business. Martin's Store remained in business until 1997, and was possibly the longest continually-operating store in the state.
