2 1/2 story white frame house; irregular plan; square central block; 2 story round turret on left; central one-story porch with 2-story central bay; tall gambrel roof above this central bay; 2-story polygonal turret on right; 1st story sheathed in weatherboard; 2nd in imbricated shingles; multiple porches with plain balustrades on 1st story; turned balustrades on 2nd story; front door has enframing columns; sidelights, 60-light transom and 25-light windows over sidelights.; mostly 1/1 sash through house with some 30/30 windows on 2nd floor; multiple brick chimneys; a great profusion of shapes; materials, and textures; turrets, gables, balustrades, windows, applied decorative woodwork, etc.

Home of Samuel McGowen, Confederate General, S.C. Supreme Court Justice, and outstanding S.C. "Redeemer" during the Reconstruction period.
