William Henry Butler bought the lot in 1912, and by 1913, he and his wife moved into one of the first houses in Hampton Park Terrace. Mr. Butler continued to live in the house after the death of his wife, although in 1927 his address was listed as 942 Ashley Avenue. In 1928, Mr. Butler sold the house to William Amos Brookbanks. Between 1932 and 1937, the house served as a branch of Cappelmann's School of Piano while the Brookbanks lived there.
