Historical Information:
In 1916, Edward Taliaferro Heyward bought the lot and he and his wife moved into their house by 1917. The Heyward family owned the house for fifty years and various family members lived there over that time. In 1968, Gertrude B. Heyward, who received the house from Mr. Heyward in November 1940, sold the house to Mr. Alva and Mrs. Lucille E. Dennis. Mrs. Dennis died in 1979, and her husband and children sold the house to John H. Douglas and Jane L. Douglas in 1980. In 1983, the house was sold to Penny G. Goldstein. In 1984, Ms. Goldstein conveyed a one-half interest in the house to Anne N. Perreyclear and then they sold the house to Richard. H. Gadsden, Jr. and Neva A. Gadsden. The Gadsdens are the current owners. They added the copper roof to the house as well as adding to the back of the second floor in 2000. In 2003, the front porch, which had been damaged by termites, was rebuilt and synthetic columns installed.
