Built in 1829 by Charles Edmonston, a wealthy scotch shipping tycoon, it is a typical Charleston house. A balustrade runs atop the roof level with the Alston coat-of-arms painted thereon, a reminder of an early owner of the house, the wealthy Alstons of Georgetown. A graceful iron filigreed balcony runs along with second level fronting the full size windows and a most grand 3-tiered piazza with Doric and Corinthian columns with balustrades is on the south side of the house. This piazza is adorned with a handsome cornice of dentils, is screened on the first level and is stopped by balustrade.
