Signficant Architectural Features:
Built by George Mathews, this was later the long time home of Hugh Swinton Legare, brilliant attorney, writer and public servant. The house stands on a high basement with a flight of red sandstone steps leading up to the entrance. Broad piazzas are on three sides and the house has a t-shaped floor plan. Interior has several variations of plasterwork and notable is a grey marble mantel in the front drawing room. Mantels are simple Adam. Basement level was finished for full family use.
