Historical Information:
The Hodges were early settlers of Marlboro County. King George III granted land in the area to John Hodges in the mid-1700s. In the early nineteenth century, John's son, Captain George Hodges, a veteran of the War of 1812, constructed a large two-story house on his father's plantation. The house remained in the Hodges family until 1942, when a fire destroyed the residence. Located near Brownsville, the cemetery contains members of the Hodges family from the last two centuries.
