Overcrowding in the Old Village Cemetery began to be a problem in the 1850's when the addition of several acres to the old cemetery did little to quell the demand. Rosemont Cemetery was established in 1863 to provide an upkept burial facility for the Newberry community. Within the grounds of the cemetery is an older enclosure surrounding the plot of the Calmes family. Rosemont has expanded into adjacent lands and now also includes a twentieth century section called Springdale. The cemetery is still in use. Laid out in a grid of streets with family plots, Rosemont has many fine monuments and tributes to Newberrians. There are several mausoleums including a rough-hewn granite one to the Fair family. Many older family graveyards were moved into Rosemont during the construction of the lakes and industrial development. A summer house or gazebo stands in the center of the old section.
