Signficant Architectural Features:
The home has nine over six windows, bay window on main façade with thin six over six windows, double entry door with sidelights and transom, interior chimney, the window beneath the porch on the main façade has sidelights and shutters and is nine over nine. The weatherboard is still evident beneath the porch. There are stone posts circling the property that were originally part of a fence. There are two associated farm outbuildings.
Alterations:
The porch supports have been replaced, asbestos shingles have been added to the exterior.
Historical Information:
Jefferson Davis spent the night here on April 30, 1865 on his flight from Richmond. The home sits on Old Milton Rd., one of the oldest trade routes in the county that dates to the days of the Indian trails. On a grant of 200 acres to John Young on May 10,1771, a log cabin was constructed and several years prior to the Civil War the current home was constructed.
