Signficant Architectural Features:
The house has Queen Anne elements in its form and design. A tall turret stands at the SE corner of the house, with a steep roof, capped with a small iron finial. Dental molding and modillions follow the roofline of the turret and the main roof. Two tall chimneys with decorative caps pierce the roof, and a smaller interior chimney rises through the rear side. The gable ends have oval vents and fish scale shingles. The porch supports are Ionic columns, and the porch roof frieze is decorated with widely spaced dental molding. The house's windows are one over one double hung panes. A gable end projects over the main entry, with double columns and a gable on the porch roof immediately over the entry. To the left of the gable on the second floor are three arched windows. The main entry is flanked by sidelights. A large three-bay barn across the street is associated with the house.
Alterations:
There is a small addition to the rear of the house. The exterior siding has been replaced.
Historical Information:
Dr. Guyton built the house, but moved to Williamston when a hospital was built there. The current owners are the fourth generation of the Stegall family to live here. The Stegalls purchased the house and extensive lands around it ca. 1920. The surrounding land has been divided among family members over the years.
