Signficant Architectural Features:
The house is in the Neoclassical style with cornerboards, one-over-one windows, three interior brick chimneys, double entry doors flanked by sidelights and topped with a fanlight, projecting gable wings on the side elevations, and monumental gable portico supported by Corinthian columns. There is a second-story balcony over the main entry door accessed by door flanked by sidelights and a transom. Modillions and dental molding decorate the roofline. The front and side gables are pent with circular (main façade) and lunette (side facades) windows in the gable ends. Small squared pilasters are located on the second story corners. The one-story porch is supported by Ionic columns and turned balustrades. The main entry is flanked by Doric pilasters toped by a row of dental molding. This pattern of decoration is repeated on the two Palladian windows on either side of the main entry.
Historical Information:
Built by the Hammond family after other family members occupied their earlier house located across the street (Site 1146). The Brown family later occupied the house. This is apparently the property from which several outbuildings were moved.
