Signficant Architectural Features:
2 story dwelling now "T"" shaped in plan raised high on brick piers. Entrance facade faces south and incorporates 5 bays with central doorway approached via brick steps supported on semi-circular arch and 2 story tiered porch. Porch carried on slim Tusc
Alterations:
Originally house appears to have been 5 bays x 2 bays, additional rear rooms being added after Civil War. Doorway suggests rehabilitation during 1870's or slightly later.
Historical Information:
Construction is attributed to W.J.Jenkins c. 1845. Before occupation of Beaufort by Union forces during Civil War owned by Col. B. Johnson. During late 1860's became hotel named Saxton House, newspapers then mentioning "improvements".
